THE MOVEMENT for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS) board concluded that the presidential elections have been positive for the party and that there would be no need for personnel changes, the daily SME wrote.
According to the deputy chairman of the party, Ján Kovarčík, after HZDS leader Vladimír Mečiar was defeated in the second round of elections, he acted in a standard way even when refusing to shake hands with president-elect Ivan Gašparovič. He said that Gasparovič should have taken the initiative to offer his hand.
Mečiar is preparing to sue several media outlets for what he calls biased reporting about his post-election behaviour.
According to Kovarčík, the tabloid daily Nový čas will be sued for its report about Mečiar sitting by the fire with his 18-year-old assistant.
In the second round of the presidential elections on April 17, Gašparovič beat Mečiar, his one-time ally, 60 percent to 40 percent.
