PREPARATION for this year's general election and the party's policy for the future were the main topics discussed at the opposition Movement for Democratic Slovakia Party (HZDS)'s National Assembly in Nitra on January 28, the TASR news agency reported.

HZDS wants to win the election and be part of the next government. According to HZDS vice-chairman Milan Urbáni, the party would focus on increasing living standards in Slovakia, improving the social system and reducing poverty.

Delegates also discussed the results of the Higher Territorial Units (VÚC) regional elections, which were held in November last year. They decided to call regional assemblies in Bratislava, Žilina, Košice and Banská Bystrica VÚCs, as well as district assemblies in ten districts.
