THE OPPOSITION Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS) hopes to win 20 percent of votes in next year's parliamentary elections, said Milan Urbáni, HZDS deputy chairman, after a meeting of the party’s board on December 17.
The party's stated goal is to win the elections, the SITA news agency wrote.
At the meeting, the party officials also discussed the organizational and technical preparations for the election year.
HZDS has been losing voter support over the last few years and is now at around 10-12 percent, according to opinion polls.
Urbáni said the HZDS plans to focus on the socially weaker segment of the population, entrepreneurs, and students. The party will present its programme at a party conference in February. HZDS chairman Vladimír Mečiar will remain the party's leader for the elections.
Urbáni also said that the HZDS does not rule out post-election cooperation with any party. He noted, however, that probably no party would team up with the Slovak Communist Party.
