HZDS libel suit adjourned

A libel suit brought by the HZDS opposition party against former Justice Minister Ján Čarnogurský was postponed on October 23 after Čarnogurský failed to turn up.The case concerns a statement the former minister made on a TV talk show January 16, 2000. “As long as the HZDS carries the brand of the kidnapping [in 1995 of the former president’s son] and the [1996] murder of [police informant] Róbert Remiáš, it may win 40 per cent in voter support polls, but it will not be a party that deserves to wield power in this state,” the then-minister said.
