The ruling coalition Movement for a Democratic Slovakia’s (HZDS) regional assembly in Košice unanimously supported the party leader Vladimír Mečiar's candidacy for the chairman at its session on April 28.
Mečiar himself attended the regional assembly, which was the first leading up to the party's national assembly scheduled for June 9 in Nitra.
According to HZDS Košice regional leader Alojz Engliš, out of 66 delegates, one was absent and the others unanimously supported Mečiar.
So far, Viliam Veteška, Mečiar's opponent, only has the support of two municipal assemblies in Pezinok (Bratislava Region) and Nové Mesto nad Váhom (Trenčín Region).
