The biggest opposition party, the Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS), is the most popular political party in the country, according to a recent poll that showed the HZDS winning 20.9 per cent of popular support.
The populist Smer party ranked second, with 17.5 per cent in the poll, carried out by the MVK agency last week. Prime Minister Mikuláš Dzurinda's Slovak Democratic and Christian Union ranked third with 13.4 per cent support, followed by the Hungarian Coalition Party, which scored 10.6 per cent.
The Communist Party won 8.2 per cent and the Christian Democrats and the New Citizen's Alliance scored 7.7 per cent and 7 per cent respectively.
