THE MOVEMENT for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS) wants to initiate talks about a future new cabinet with the ruling parties since similar efforts have failed among the opposition parties.
The Slovak daily SME wrote on January 26 that the HZDS would not support a minority cabinet led by PM Mikuláš Dzurinda.
HZDS chairman Vladimír Mečiar said that his party is "prepared to take over a part of the responsibility if a crisis emerged in the constitutional state bodies and it was necessary to stabilize these institutions for some time".
Viliam Veteška, HZDS deputy chairman, said that he was going to meet representatives from the ruling Christian Democrats and Hungarian Coalition Party, as well as the opposition party Smer to discuss the "new program to get Slovakia up on its feet once it enters Europe".
He said that the HZDS would be willing to form a new cabinet with some of the current ruling parties.
