‘I will miss you’, says Gašparovič to ministers

OUTGOING President Ivan Gašparovič will miss the cabinet of Prime Minister Robert Fico, as he admitted during the June 11 cabinet session, which is the last one he will attend before his term ends on June 15. “I look forward to having much more free time, but I am convinced that I will also miss you a little bit,” Gašparovič told the ministers, as quoted by the SITA newswire. “I will miss those meetings when we had problems, we called each other, we came, we sat down and we looked for solutions.”

Gašparovič said he was glad to work mainly with governments led by Robert Fico during his two terms. He stressed he has always tried to be in the position of a political partner rather than opposition, according to SITA.

“It is no secret, on the contrary, I think it was a big advantage that the relations between the three constitutional officials in 2006-2010 and from 2012 until now were above-standard,” SITA quoted Gašparovič as saying.

PM Fico praised the outgoing president’s firm stances towards Slovak national interests.

“I’ve often witnessed talks with him when I was endorsing some things and where you as president were even more social than me,” Fico said, as quoted by SITA.
