BY December 13 Slovaks handed in 967 illegal firearms to the police as part of an arms amnesty that was announced on April 14, the SITA news agency reported.

The amnesty is part of a revised law on arms and ammunition that seeks to reduce the number of illegally held guns and armaments, which are often used in criminal activities.
