In Moscow, Slovakia’s Tucker Carlson celebrates a “flourishing” Russia

MEP Ľuboš Blaha’s visit to Moscow plays out like a propaganda piece.

Russia-friendly MEP Ľuboš Blaha, the deputy leader of Slovakia’s Smer party, embarked on a visit to Moscow last Saturday, prompting extensive coverage in Russian state media eager to document the unusual presence of a Western politician.

Blaha shared his experiences on social media, claiming, “Most journalists wished me luck after our conversation; they believe my life is in danger.”

His visit included paying respects at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the statue of Marshal Georgy Zhukov of the Soviet Union, all captured in a series of videos, writes SME daily.

In his posts, Blaha reiterated previous controversial statements praising Russia as “beautiful, wise, and advanced”. His visit coincided with pro-Kremlin propaganda narratives, as he appeared to legitimise various wartime messages, blaming the West for provoking the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Blaha’s excursion bears resemblance to former Fox News host Tucker Carlson’s trip to Russia earlier this year, with both figures showcasing scenes from Moscow’s metro and shopping centres to suggest that the country is functioning normally despite the severe Western sanctions aimed at its economy. Notably, Blaha highlighted the low price of petrol in Moscow, ignoring Slovakia’s role as a consumer of Russian oil.

“I see a flourishing and truly beautiful country,” Blaha said of Russia.
