Zdenka Kramplová, an independent MP (formerly from the Movement for a Democratic Slovakia, HZDS), stated on February 22 that she may become a vice chair of the Alliance for Europe of Nations (AZEN) party, which is chaired by her former party colleague Milan Urbáni, the TASR newswire reported.
In addition to AZEN's programme and political culture, Kramplová said she appreciates the possibility of working together with people she already knows.
“You always prefer working alongside people you know,” said Kramplová to TASR, adding that she hasn’t made a final decision yet. “We’re in the negotiations phase at the moment,” she said.
“I need to ascertain what’s possible and what isn't. That will allow me to make a decision on whether I’ll be able to fulfil some quite interesting points of AZEN's programme,” she said, adding that “it's important for the party to be of some use to people also in terms of regional politics as well as of a new political culture.”
Although initially surprised, Kramplová said she appreciates the joint candidacy list that AZEN has drawn up with the Roma Initiative of Slovakia (RIS). She’s convinced that this alliance could contribute to addressing issues of the Roma population.
“The Roma people represent a great force to be counted on and to work together with. As long as such a partnership yields productive results and not only spends money, it’s a good idea,” she said. Kramplová and Urbáni were both ousted from HZDS in late 2009. TASR
