Industry in Slovakia continues to enjoy double-digit growth rate. Following an
adjustment for the number of working days, its output in January increased by 12.9 percent year-on-year which exceeded its growth from December by 0.2 percentage points.
The growth was supported in particular by industrial manufacturing itself which increased by 15.9 percent, while the production of electricity, gas, steam and cooled air supply fell by 1 percent and mining and quarrying by 2.9 percent. In a monthly comparison – after a seasonal adjustment – industrial output in January rose by 1.9 percent, the Slovak Statistics Office informed the SITA newswire on March 12.
The greatest contribution to growth of industrial production was from manufacturing of transport equipment which grew by 37 percent. The production of basic metals and metal products except machinery and equipment increased, too, by 6.7 percent; manufacturing of machinery and equipment not
classified elsewhere by 13.2 percent; other manufacturing, repair and installation of machinery and equipment by 16.1 percent; and manufacturing of electrical equipment grew by 11 percent. The volume of production decreased in the
production of textiles, apparel, leather and related products by 14.7 percent; production of coke and refined petroleum products by 17.1 percent; basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations by 37.8 percent; and
production of chemicals and chemical products by 7.5 percent.
