Industrial production rising

THE INDEX of industrial production rose by 9.1 percent year-on-year in February, as a result of the increase in industrial manufacturing by 11.4 percent. On the other hand, the production dropped in supplies of electricity, gas, steam and cold air by 2.9 percent and in mining and quarrying by 0.6 percent, the Statistics Office reported on its website on April 10.

The increase in overall industrial production was mostly affected by the increase in the manufacture of vehicles (by 12.5 percent), of electric devices (by 33.1 percent), of metals and metal constructions, except for machinery and equipment (by 10.2 percent), of products from rubber, plastics and other non-metal mineral products (by 14.1 percent) and of computing, electronic and optical products (by 19 percent). The volume of production fell in the manufacture of food, drinks and tobacco products (by 2.6 percent), of basic and common pharmaceuticals (by 24.8 percent), of textiles, clothing, leather and leather products (by 4.4 percent), and of chemicals and chemical products (by 6.4 percent).

Regarding the main industrial groups, the manufacture of objects of long-term consumption increased by 39.7 percent, the production of intermediate consumption rose by 11.5 percent and the production of investment means grew by 10.6 percent. The manufacture of goods for short-term production fell by 3.2 percent and the production pertaining to energy dropped by 0.3 percent.

After assessing the seasonal effects, the industrial production dropped by 0.2 percent in February compared to January. During the first two months of 2014 the index of industrial production rose by 11 percent year-on-year, with the industrial manufacture increasing by 13.6 percent year-on-year. The production was lower in supplies of electricity, gas, steam and cold air by 2 percent year-on-year, and in mining and quarrying by 1.7 percent year-on-year, according to the statistics office.

As for the first two months of 2014, the total increase in production was affected mostly by the manufacture of vehicles by 24 percent, of electronic devices by 21.2 percent, of metals and metal constructions, except for machinery and equipment by 8.4 percent, of products from rubber, plastics and other non-metal mineral products by 11.7 percent, and of production of machinery and other appliances by 11.8 percent. It dropped in the manufacture of textiles, clothing, leather and leather products by 9.6 percent, of basic and common pharmaceuticals by 31.5 percent, and of chemicals and chemical products by 7.2 percent.

Regarding the main industrial groups, the manufacture of objects for long-term consumption increased by 95.5 percent, the production of investment means rose by 13.2 percent and the manufacture for intermediate consumption grew by 8.1 percent. On the hand, the manufacture of objects for short-term consumption dropped by 3.7 percent and the production pertaining to energy fell by 1.6 percent.
