Last year, 43 percent of software used in Slovakia was illegal, according to anti-piracy organisation the Business Software Alliance (BSA).
The BSA also said that, despite the economic crisis, Slovakia had the same software piracy rate as in 2008, the SITA newswire reported. The alliance stated that the Slovak software industry lost over €45 million due to piracy in 2009. Its spokeswoman Slávka Sikurová said that piracy was being successfully addressed in firms, but that households continued to use illegal software.
