Industrial production rose 8.5 per cent in September from the same month ago, giving the country a record monthly nominal output figure and a 9 per cent rise year-on-year in the third quarter, promising continued strong GDP growth.
The rise was driven by foreign investors such as electronics maker Sony and auto producer Volkswagen Slovakia.
VW produced 171,000 cars in the first nine months of 2002 for output of Sk77 billion ($1.8 billion), an 11 per cent rise on the same period in 2001. The firm employed 8,767 people at the end of September, 1,295 more than a year ago.
