THE ANNUAL inflation rate continued to drop in August when it fell by 0.2 percent. The core inflation did not change, while the net inflation increased by 0.4 percent, the Statistics Office (ŠÚ) informed on September 12.
Overall inflation in August compared to July was influenced by -0.21 percentage points by core inflation and by 0.01 percentage points by regulated prices, while indirect taxes had no effect on overall inflation. Food prices influenced the core inflation by -0.17 percentage points, and net inflation affected the core inflation by -0.04 percentage points, according to ŠÚ.
When it comes to consumer prices in August, they dropped by 0.2 percent in total compared to the previous month. They decreased in food and non-alcoholic beverages by 0.9 percent; clothing and footwear by 0.6 percent; transport, recreation and culture by 0.2 percent each; and miscellaneous goods and services by 0.1 percent. On the other hand, the prices rose in furnishings, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house, health and education by 0.2 percent each; and alcoholic beverages and tobacco by 0.1 percent. They remained the same in housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, postal and telecommunication services, and hotels, cafés and restaurants.
In annual terms, the prices dropped by 0.2 percent in total. They dropped in food and non-alcoholic beverages by 1.7 percent; transport by 1 percent; postal and telecommunication services by 0.9 percent; and housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, and furnishings, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house by 0.7 percent each. They rose in education by 3.8 percent; miscellaneous goods and services by 1.9 percent; clothing and footwear by 1.6 percent; alcoholic beverages and tobacco by 1.1 percent; hotels, cafés and restaurants by 1 percent; health by 0.9 percent; and recreation and culture by 0.5 percent.
During the first eight months of the year, consumer prices fell by 0.1 percent year-on-year, according to the ŠÚ.
