Influx of foreigners rises in 2007

Slovakia recorded a 6.6-percent annual rise in the arrival of foreigners and a 5.1-percent increase in departures by its own citizens in 2007, the Ministry of Economy reported on April 8, citing information from the country's statistics office and central bank.

The largest number of foreigners came from the Czech Republic, rising 30.4 percent over 2006, and from Hungary, Poland, Austria and Ukraine. Approximately the same number of Slovaks headed for those countries.

Last December the number of incoming foreigners and departing Slovaks dropped year-on-year by close to 19 percent and 22.5 percent respectively. TASR
