Pensioners and people over 60 allege they are receiving insufficient information about euro adoption in Slovakia, according to a survey conducted this September by the Statistics Office.
But Igor Barát, the government’s appointee on the euro, says that this is no surprise. In his words, it is understandable that the range of knowledge in this group will logically always be lower than the national average.
This target group can also receive information, for instance, in discussions, lectures or debates organised in cooperation with partners, such as self-governments, NGOs, the Association of Slovakia's Senior Citizens, churches, the postal service company Slovenská Pošta or financial institutions. Senior citizens can also acquire information about the euro by means of various printed materials written in more easily readable fonts.
Overall knowledge related to euro introduction in Slovakia reached high rates in September, despite the slightly worse outcome posted among seniors. Eighty-seven percent of respondents said that the information was sufficient.
The latest poll took place on September 18-24 among a representative sample of people over 16. SITA
