Lawmakers from the Parliamentary Committee for Agriculture, Environment and Nature Conservation examined the books of Slovakia’s Land Management Fund (SPF) on Tuesday, December 8, to verify claims about an irregular transfer of land in the past during restitution procedures.
Miroslav Jureňa of the ruling coalition party the Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS) said he had found the procedures regarding restitution claims relating to transfer of land in Veľký Slavkov near the Tatra mountains two years ago and the recent Veľká Lomnica case to be legally in order. But he called into question the restitution of land conducted under the previous administration of Mikuláš Dzurinda in 2004, when plots were restored in locations other than those the owners were entitled to under deed. Between 2004 and 2006 there were more than 1,800 hectares transferred in this way. Opposition MP Zsolt Simon (Most-Híd), however, cast doubt on the Tatras land transfer, for which the SPF board recommendation to the agency's chief to approve the land transfer agreement is missing.
