According to SIS spokesman Vladimír Šimko, a shotgun was found next to the dead body of the 31-year-old man.

Šimko told the SITA news agency that the gun was not the one the unnamed officer was allowed to carry as part of his job.

The case is being investigated by the police in cooperation with the SIS.

Šimko also said that it was highly probable that the officer committed suicide. The officer had served in the SIS for nine years, and according to Šimko he had always been a disciplined member of the intelligence force.
