FORTY-NINE companies have officially submitted their bids for the Bratislava and Kosice airports. Others have one more week to send in their offers before the deadline.
The Slovak government is expected to announce the winner of the public tender by the end of this year. The state privatization committee refuses to provide estimates on how much the sale will fetch, the SME daily reported.

IF THE FINANCE Ministry has its way, municipalities will no longer be able to raise local taxes on fixed assets by an unlimited amount.
The Finance Ministry received complaints from businesses claiming to be placed under enormous financial strain when their municipalities increased their local taxes to 20 and 30 times the original level. Some businesses were facing bankruptcy as a result.
The Finance Minister incorporated a proposal to regulate local taxation and waste management fees in a draft bill amendment. The cabinet approved the bill last week and has forwarded it to the parliament.
"Local taxes belong under the regional government's authority and rightly it should not be limited. However, life shows that that some limits need to be set," the cabinet appointee for decentralization, Viktor Nižcanský, told the Hospodárske Noviny daily.
