Interior Minister Daniel Lipšic appointed Jaroslav Spišiak as the new president of Slovakia’s Police Corps, the SITA newswire reported.
Jaroslav Spišiak began working for the Slovak Police Corps in 1988. He started in the district department in the town of Dunajská Streda in southern Slovakia. He later studied at the Police Academy and after graduation worked as a lawyer in the police district headquarters in Dunajská Streda and later became director of the internal department. He then moved to the Police Corps Presidium where he dealt with economic crimes and from 1998 he was the Dunajská Streda district police director.
Spišiak became known to the public as a fighter against organized crime after the mass execution of the Papay crime gang in Dunajská Streda in 1999. He actively participated in clarifying this murder as well as other mafia murders within the territory.
Spišiak became the vice-president of the Police Corps on October 1, 2001. He remained in the position until August 2006 when he was recalled by then-Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák. At that time, Spišiak decided to quit the police and media have reported that he has been heading the company security department at Slovnaft, the Bratislava-based crude oil refiner.
