The Interior Ministers of Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Austria and Slovakia announced their intention to create a task force to fight computer crime, said Czech Interior Minister Vaclav Grulich at a press conference on October 16 in Zidlochovice, Czech Republic.
Grulich said that the force's activities would be co-ordinated by Poland. The ministers will meet again in May, 2000 to discuss the results of the initiative.
The decision was the result of an April meeting of the Interior Ministers, Grulich explained. In an effort to fight crime in the region, each country was assigned a different area of crime to fight - Hungary deals chiefly with car thefts, Slovakia with weapons smuggling and nuclear waste, the Czech Republic with violence at sporting events, Austria with corruption issues and Poland with computer crime.
