The Interior Ministry has prepared a new Road Act after its first version was vetoed by President Ivan Gašparovič earlier this month, the ministry reported on September 23.
The new draft leaves out the first version’s extended list of highways and roads that would be subject to a special expropriation regime. It is to be discussed by the Cabinet on September 24.
The draft would lower speed limits in villages and towns from 60 km/h to 50 km/h. It would also require vehicles to keep their lights on year round. Apart from some exceptions, winter tires would be compulsory when there is snow and ice on the roads. It would also require cyclists to wear helmets outside of towns and villages and children under 15 to wear helmets all the time when biking. TASR
