Although information about a puma roaming western Slovakia is said to be true, at least according to the police, photos that were recently published on internet were made by a group of boys from Senica using photographic manipulation, the Sme daily reported.

“Even some of my colleagues saw the animal running freely,” said Martina Kredatusová of the Trnava Police Corps, as quoted by Sme. Vets, zoologists and police officials are searching for the puma so that it can be sedated and relocated to a safe place.

Although dozens of people say they have seen the animal there are no credible photographs of it. A video recording made by Martin Čulen from Senica shows a feline animal somewhere in a field. “I have never claimed it to be a puma”, Čulen told Sme. Experts have said they cannot determine the animal’s species from the video.

The clearest photographs posted on the internet turned out to only be a joke by the young boys, Sme wrote, adding that the puma has its own Facebook page and has appeared on mugs and T-shirts. Because the animal has not been seen for some time some people are commenting that it may have wandered across the border to Moravia in the Czech Republic.

Kredatusová added that the police have not received any recent reports about sightings of the animal in western Slovakia.
