Internet - the global computer network, the network of networks, is made up of more than 16 million host computers with more than 50 million users worldwide. According to some prognoses, every computer will be hooked up to the Internet by 2005. The cause of the Internet's increasing popularity is its accessibility to everybody. This represents an enormous number of potential customers who can use various services offered by this network: electronic mail (e-mail), World Wide Web (WWW), communication via the Internet (TALK, IRC, CHAT), File Transfer Protocol (FTP) or electronic conferences (Netnews, Usenet).
Internet is a large multimedia highway which enables us to transport texts, programs, pictures, and even sounds. One can also look in large databases, book a hotel, hook up to museums, galleries, libraries, computers with a large number of programs, join discussion groups discussing any topic, watch teleconferences, shop in shopping centers.... On the originally non-commercial Internet, more and more commercial activities are showing up and more contracts are being signed. WWW Pages (World Wide Web) enable a user to look at this colorful world full of information with complete graphic ease.

In August 1997, EuroTel as the primary Internet provider in Slovakia became a member of the Slovak Peering Center - SIX. Transfer points will be built in four Slovak towns (Bratislava, Žilina, Banská Bystrica, and Košice), with the help of which it is possible to access the Internet for local telephone rates.
Gradually, with the objective of satisfying the general public, EuroTel wants to make the budget-priced Internet accessible for customers in four more towns (Nitra, Trnava, Trenčín, and Prešov).
