THE BRATISLAVA regional court has confirmed its verdict from February 13, 2001, and sentenced Mikuláš Polóny to 14 years for the murder of two people in Bratislava's Irish pub on July 7, 1999. Polońy has appealed to the Supreme Court, and says he is innocent.
Two state witnesses identified Polońy as the gunman in the attempt on the lives of two brothers, Ján and Marián Štec, which left one dead and one seriously wounded. A bystander, student Tomáš Arnold, was killed as the murderer fired back into the pub crowd on departing.
