Employees in the information and communications sector were paid the highest average nominal monthly wage, of €1,566, in the January-February period of this year according to data from the Slovak Statistics Office, the SITA newswire reported.
Average nominal monthly wages in industry amounted to €753 and selected market services paid €740 per month during the period monitored. Staff in the wholesale sector made €708 on average, in distribution and repairs of motor vehicles €687, in transport and storage €671, and in accommodation services €536. The retail sector paid €523 and the construction sector €514 per month on average. Employees of hotels and pubs earned the lowest average monthly salary of €358 in the first two month of this year.
Average nominal wages climbed 6.7 percent year-on-year (y/y) in industry, 5.9 percent in restaurant and pub services, 5.1 percent in information and telecommunications technology, and 4.5 percent in selected market services. The wholesale sector reported wage growth of 3.3 percent, distribution and repair of motor vehicles of 2.5 percent, the retail sector of 1.3 percent, and the accommodation sector of 0.8 percent. Transport and storage wages saw a fall by 0.4 percent, while construction wages fell by 0.7 percent.
In February alone the average nominal monthly wage climbed 7.8 percent y/y in industry, 6.6 percent in restaurant and pub services, 5.6 percent in the wholesale sector, 4.1 percent in the information and telecommunications technology and the selected market services sectors, and 2.4 percent in distribution and repair of motor vehicles. Average nominal monthly wages in the retail sector were 1.2 percent higher than a year ago, and 0.5 percent higher in transport and storage. On the other hand, wages in the accommodation services sector experienced a 1.9 percent drop and the construction sector a 0.9 percent drop.
