IT sector paid best in January, restaurants paid least

Employees in Slovakia’s information and communications sector were paid the highest average nominal monthly wage, of €1,530, in January of this year.

Employees in Slovakia’s information and communications sector were paid the highest average nominal monthly wage, of €1,530, in January of this year.

Average nominal monthly wages in industry amounted to €757 and selected market services paid €743 in the monitored period. Staff in the wholesale sector earned €705 on average, in distribution and repair of motor vehicles it was €693, in transport and storage €691, and in accommodation services €546. The construction sector paid €526 and the retail sector €522 on average. Employees of hotels and pubs earned the lowest average monthly salary, of €358, in the first month of this year, according to data provided by the Slovak Statistics Office.

Average nominal wages climbed 6.1 percent year-on-year in IT, 5.6 percent in industry, 5.1 percent in restaurant and pub services, and 4.9 percent in selected market services, the SITA newswire wrote. On an annual basis, real wages in January were higher in the IT sector by 5.7 percent, in industry by 5.2 percent, in restaurants and pubs by 4.7 percent and in selected market services by 4.5 percent. The accommodation services sector saw an increase of 3.1 percent, car sales and repairs of 2.2 percent, the retail sector of 1.1 percent, and wholesale sector of 0.8 percent. Real wages in transport and storage were lower by 1.7 percent, and in construction by 1 percent.
