ITALIAN PM Silvio Berlusconi praised reforms carried out in Slovakia in recent years, voicing his appreciation during a meeting with the Slovak Parliamentary Speaker Pavol Hrušovský November 19.

Berlusconi complimented the centre-right government for having pushed through the kinds of reforms that his own government “could only dream of”, Hrušovský told journalists after the meeting.

“[Berlusconi] said he hoped that Italy would at least approach Slovakia’s achievements in the area of fiscal decentralisation and tax reform,” Hrušovský said.

According to the state run news agency TASR, the two officials also discussed Italian investments in Slovakia and the prospective privatisation of Slovak power producer Slovenské elektrárne to Italy’s energy giant Enel.

Belrusconi also met with Slovak Prime Minister Mikuláš Dzurinda during the official visit.
