An appeals court in London has ruled that the children of Slovak Ivana Boórová can return home to Slovakia, the TASR newswire reported on December 14.
The representatives of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, along with people from the Labour Ministry, have welcomed the verdict. The MFA even called the case a precedent, adding that the English courts will have to take the significance of the biological family into account when taking children away from their parents in Great Britain from now on.
“I have always had an interest in protecting our citizens,” said Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák, as quoted by TASR. “The priority is to have citizens abide by the laws of the country in which they choose to live, but their own rights can't be abused just because they are foreigners.”
Labour Minister Ján Richter added that despite the latest ruling of the appeals court, the ministry’s work is far from over.
“Our experts have dozens of other files on their desks every day and work with them,” he said, as quoted by TASR, adding that the ministry is in a “continuous communication with all involved countries, from Europe, Russia, China, to Australia”.
Slovakia became involved in the case of Ivana Boórová’s children as a third party, interceding with the courts for both boys to return home while providing guarantees concerning their health care and provision of education. The boys will be entrusted to their grandmother’s care, TASR wrote.
