The level of democracy in Slovakia received the same grade in the third quarter as the previous two quarters of the year 2012, with a mark of 2.8, according to a Barometer survey whose results were provided to the TASR newswire by the Public Affairs Institute (IVO) on Monday, October 15.
The aim of IVO's Barometer survey is to gauge the level of democracy in five areas: the rule of law, legislation, respect for human and minority rights, the independent public-service media, and foreign policy in terms of the euro and transatlantic integration. The marks range between 1 and 5, with 1 representing the optimal state of democracy based on standards and comparative criteria in other EU and Council of Europe countries.
