JÁN Jasovský from the opposition Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS) was elected the new chairman of the Supreme Control Office (NKÚ) in a second secret ballot in Parliament on December 7. No candidate gained sufficient support in the first round.
The new NKÚ deputy chairwoman will be Zora Dobríková of Prime Minister Mikuláš Dzurinda's Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ).
Jasovský gained the support of 79 MPs and as the opposition parties together only control 60 votes, it is clear that some ruling coalition and independent MPs supported him in the ballot.
The new NKÚ leadership is elected for a seven-year term.
