Slovakia’s Nuclear and Decommissioning Company (JAVYS) is set to build an integrated storage facility for radioactive waste near the V2 nuclear power plant at Jaslovské Bohunice (Trnava Region), the TASR newswire reported on Tuesday, February 7.
The facility, which is due to be built between October 2013 and 2015, will be used as a temporary storage location for radioactive waste from the plant until a permanent storage site becomes available. If JAVYS's investment plan is approved, the storage facility should operate until 2085 and cost approximately €26 million, the TASR newswire wrote. The investment plan, which is currently being assessed, envisages two options for the location of the facility: on the site of the nuclear plant, or around three kilometres away.
