The unemployment rate in Slovakia dropped to 13.12 percent in August, slightly less than in July but still a percentage point higher than in August 2010, the SITA newswire wrote. The Labour, Social Affairs and Family Central Office reported there were 349,885 jobseekers able to take up a job immediately.
The overall number of unemployed persons was 384,220 in August, a month-on-month decline of 2,087. The unemployment rate calculated from the overall number of jobseekers – including those who cannot start working immediately - was 14.4 percent.
Six regions reported a decline in their jobless rate in August with the rate dropping the most in Nitra Region by 0.12 percentage points to 12.58 percent. Žilina Region recorded a 0.11-percentage point decrease to 11.3 percent and Prešov Region posted a 0.09-percentage point drop to 18.42 percent. The jobless rate in Banská Bystrica Region fell by 0.02 percentage points to 19.13 percent. Trenčín Region posted a 0.02-percentage point drop to 9.40 percent while Košice Region recorded a 0.01-percentage point decrease to 18.39 percent.
The unemployment rate increased 0.09 percentage points to 8.55 percent in Trnava Region and by 0.06 percentage points to 5.42 percent in Bratislava Region.
