THE LEVEL of registered jobless in Slovakia dropped below 11 percent to 10.88 percent, the Minister of Labour, Social Affairs and Family, Ľudovít Kaník told the press.
The figure represents a drop of 0.15 percent compared with July of this year. "This rate of unemployment was last registered in Slovakia eight years ago," said Kaník.
At the end of August job centres registered 281,549 unemployed ready to take up a new job immediately. Compared to July, the number of unemployed fell by 3,700 and compared to August 2004 by 65,200, the SITA news wire reported.
At the end of August, the total number of job seekers was 318,657. The jobless rate calculated from the total number of job seekers reached 12.32 percent. This was a drop of 0.14 percent month-on-month, with a 2.25 percent drop compared with the same period in 2004.
"We will not be satisfied until all who want to work find work," said Kaník. However, according to the minister, finding jobs for the remaining unemployed is getting harder, since those who remain jobless are those without qualifications
