Czech actor Josef Abrhám on Saturday, June 19, received the Actor's Mission Award at the 18th Annual Art Film Fest international film festival, taking place in Trenčianske Teplice from June 18 to 26, the TASR newswire reported.
"I began acting in Bratislava. I was admitted (to university), but after the holidays an order from political circles in Uherské Hradiště (now in the Czech Republic) was received, stating that it wasn't desirable for me to study. And then Chancellor Andrej Bagar became angry, because he knew our family and he saw my rehearsals. He said 'It isn't acceptable that a grandson of Jozef Hollý, obviously talented, won't be admitted," Abrhám told the TASR newswire, adding that he became an actor thanks to Bagar.
The actor's grandfather Jozef Hollý was an outstanding Slovak playwright and novelist. "If you allow me to - I have to show this award to those above us, to my ancestors," said Abrhám after accepting the award from Art Film Fest director Peter Hladík. Abrhám is the first actor to receive the award this year. Slovak actor Milan Kňažko and French actor Gerard Depardieu will receive the Actor's Mission Award in the next few days.
