Former Sme daily reporter Zuzana Petková has faced charges for more than a year because she wrote about the salary of the wife of Supreme Court President and chair of the Judicial Council, Štefan Harabin. Now, the District Prosecutor's Office has again turned down her complaint against the charges, Sme wrote on Friday, June 8.
The deputy general prosecutor, Dobroslav Trnka, earlier ruled that the District Prosecutor's Office had violated the law when turning down Petková's complaint against the prosecution and ordered her complaint to be re-assessed. Now, the vice-chair of the District Prosecutor's Office, Soňa Juričková, has again ruled that the complaint is not legitimate. She commented that it was not in the public interest to publish information about Gabriela Harabinová's salary, and that Petková did not have her consent to do so. European courts have already ruled that it is inadmissible to prosecute journalists for publishing factual information.
