Plans have been announced to build two 100-metre-plus residential buildings next to the new building of the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava. J&T Real Estate – part of the J&T financial group – started selling flats in the buildings on Tuesday, February 26, the Sme daily reported. In total, the towers should contain 606 flats.
“We want to launch construction this year,” spokesperson Katarína Krajňáková told Sme, “with the first flats to be habitable in 2015”. However, the company has yet to obtain a construction licence for the buildings.
The project was originally announced in 2007, but was later postponed due to the financial crisis. Original plans for luxury flats were changed into housing for young people and families. A one-bedroom flat with an area of 54 square metres and a balcony is being offered – according to the Trend weekly – for €105,000.
If it is completed, the Two Towers development would become the tallest residential project in Slovakia. The tallest building in Slovakia will remain the National Bank of Slovakia headquarters, which is 111 metres in height, Sme wrote. There is no agreed definition of a ‘skyscraper’, but buildings exceeding 100 metres in height have been common for more than a century. The world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, is more than 800 metres tall.
