Judge Helena Kožíková, who lodged a criminal complaint against filmmaker Zuzana Piussi regarding the latter's film, ‘The Disease of the Third Power’, has said she disagrees with a decision to halt her prosecution for an alleged violation of confidentiality of verbal expression in a private conversation.
“Judge [Kožíková] submitted an objection to the decision over halting the criminal prosecution in a legitimate period,” a spokesperson for the police in Trenčín told the SITA newswire on January 29, adding that the prosecutor will now consider the complaint.
Piussi's documentary features Kožíková in conversation with the daughter of the late Marta Lauková, another judge. The daughter is seen trying to confront Kožíková about statements she had made earlier to the deceased judge. Kožíková, a former member of the Judicial Council, Slovakia’s top judicial body, alleges that the interview with her that appears in the film was recorded and broadcast without her consent. Part of Kožíková’s face is obscured in the film but she claims that she is still identifiable.
Kožíková filed a criminal complaint against the film in July 2012, with the prosecution starting at the end of October. The police halted it on January 19, SITA wrote.
