The Smer party remains by far the most popular party in Slovakia with a June poll by the Polis agency showing that Smer would have received 42.3 percent of the vote if a general election had been held in the first half of June, said Martin Slosiarik of the agency to the TASR newswire on June 21.
The June 5-11 poll, carried out by Focus on a sample of 1,026 respondents showed that the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) was second with public backing of 10.8 percent. Ordinary People and Independent Personalities (OĽaNO) party had 8.5 percent, followed by Most-Híd at 7.4 percent, and Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) at 7.1 percent.
The 5-percent threshold needed to win representation in parliament would also have been cleared by the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) at 6.5 percent and the Slovak National Party (SNS) at 5 percent.
