Justice Minister Daniel Lipšic, 29, one of the cabinet’s most outspoken opponents of corruption, suspended two judges on November 22 for workplace infractions, and days later personally assisted in the arrest of a court-appointed debt collector for bribery.
After a personal acquaintance told Lipšic the debt collector was asking for a bribe of Sk800,000 ($19,000), the minister informed police and set up a sting operation in which the accused was caught accepting Sk100,000 in fake bills.
Of the suspended judges, both from the Šala district bench, one was suspended for drinking on the job, and the other for gross delays in court cases.
“I would do it any time, because we have to expose corruption,” the energetic minister said.
