Defense Minister František Kašický visited the Slovenský Raj (Slovak Paradise) National Park on Wednesday to witness first hand efforts to contain the fire has been burning since Sunday.
After his inspection, Kašický said that two helicopters will continue to operate at the site, with a third on stand-by at a base in Prešov. He added that rain was the best hope to end the fire quickly.
Firefighters are also battling a fire that broke out on in a gorge near the village of Poráče (Kosšice region). According to the fire brigade in Spissšká Nová Ves, strong winds have spread this fire to a second gorge.
