SMER boss Robert Fico has to neither apologize to the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) nor pay Sk1 million (€25,600) in fines for alleged defamatory statements, the Bratislava District Court decided
The opposition party leader accused the ruling coalition and the KDH of profiting through the planned purchase of sub-sonic jets for the army, the daily Pravda wrote.
The trial lasted four years. The KDH still has an option to appeal the verdict.
During 2001, the KDH advocated the replacement of supersonic planes by multi-purpose sub-sonic jets. They argued that it was the only way to save Slovakia's air force. The KDH denied that it hoped to profit from the proposal.
