THE CHAIRMAN of the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH), Ján Figeľ, will remain in his post for another four years after delegates at the KDH’s 20th congress re-elected him as their leader for another term. At the same time, they voted in favour of prolonging KDH leaders’ normal terms from two to four years.
Figeľ, the only candidate running for the post, gained 301 votes out of the 334 delegates present, the SITA newswire reported.
Figeľ told the congress that attacks on KDH are often unfair. He went on to say he was sorry about the position of some KDH MPs who recently failed to support the cabinet’s draft increase in the excise tax on beer.
“It is a mistake that must not happen again,” he said.
The movement also elected Figeľ’s deputy chairpersons for the next term. They are: Daniel Lipšic, Ján Hudacký, Július Brocka, Ivan Uhliarik, Jana Žitňanská and Pavol Abrhan.
