Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) and the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) have failed to reach an agreement over which of them will nominate the chair of parliament’s economy and budget committee. It means that a final decision will be made by MPs, who will vote on parliamentary positions in a secret ballot held on April 4, the TASR newswire reported.
Both parties have their own candidates for the post: the KDH is proposing the former state secretary (i.e. deputy minister) at the Transport Ministry, Ján Hudacký; SaS wants to nominate the outgoing economy minister, Juraj Miškov.
SaS said that, out of the committee chairs offered by the winning Smer party to the opposition, it is interested only in that of the economy and budget committee. Moreover, it said it believes that the former economy minister is a better nominee than the state secretary for the committee, TASR wrote.
On the other hand, the KDH stressed that the nomination of Hudacký is closely linked to his deputy chairmanship of the party.
“We consider this proposal to be relevant,” said KDH leader Ján Figeľ, as quoted by TASR. “As for who is a better expert, let that be decided by those holding the vote.”
