The former main negotiator of Slovakia's entry to the European Union, Ján Figeľ, will become the country's first representative to the European Commission, while Aurel Ugor will be appointed the new boss of the National Security Office (NBÚ), the daily SME reported.
Up against Figeľ was former Coca-Cola manager Ivan Štefanec, nominated by Mikuláš Dzurinda's Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) party.
KDH deputy chairman Pavol Minárik told the press that all ruling coalition partners agreed with installing Figeľ, 44, to the EC post.
"He has the strongest moral right to occupy the post," Minárik said.
Dzurinda said that three coalition parties supported Figeľ, a member of the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH), and the SDKÚ decided not to stand in the way of agreement. However, the PM insists that the SDKÚ had nominated a better candidate.
Ugor, currently working for Slovakia's military defence intelligence, will take the NBÚ top post to calm down the turbulence around the NBÚ, which resulted in a cabinet crisis.
NBÚ boss Ján Mojžiš was recalled after the PM said he was working against the interests of the state and the SDKÚ. Former Defence Minister Ivan Šimko voted against Mojžiš' recall, thus risking his own position.
