Conservative Democrats of Slovakia (KDS) MPs are preparing a proposal that would repeal the amnesty that Vladimír Mečiar granted to some of his associates while Acting President in 1998, the party announced on September 23.
The MPs made the decision in response to a recent ruling by the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg in favour of former secret services (SIS) head Ivan Lexa, KDS spokesperson Mária Majdová told the TASR newswire.
If successful, the repeal of the amnesty would allow a full investigation into the kidnapping of former President Michal Kováč's son to Austria in 1995. Lexa and 10 other secret service members were accused in the case. TASR
