The recently formed Office for Regulation of Electronic Communications and Postal Services should be led by Vladimír Kešjar who until recently was the vice-chair of the Slovak Telecommunication Office (TÚ). The office was established as of January 1, 2014, by merging of two regulatory offices falling under the remit of the Transport Ministry: the TÚ and the Postal Regulatory Office.
MPs approved the proposal for the first election of office’s chairman in a secret ballot, the SITA newswire wrote. The new office is stipulated in the recently passed Law on the Office for Regulation of Electronic Communications and Postal Services and the Transport Office. It stipulates that five regulatory offices controlled by the Transport Ministry should merge into two by the beginning of this year. The goal is to reduce the number of budgetary institutions, reduce the administrative staff, and thus save money. In the first three years of the operation of the new institutions, €2,129,000 should be saved, according to officials.
