Kia plans to make 290,000 cars and 490,000 engines this year

Carmaker Kia Motors Slovakia plans to produce 290,000 cars and 490,000 engines in Slovakia this year, the company's chief executive, Eek-Hee Lee, said on January 10, the TASR newswire reported.

Carmaker Kia Motors Slovakia plans to produce 290,000 cars and 490,000 engines in Slovakia this year, the company's chief executive, Eek-Hee Lee, said on January 10, the TASR newswire reported.

Kia's manufacturing plant in Teplička nad Váhom, near Žilina, made 292,000 cars last year, reporting 15-percent year-on-year growth. The number of engines heading off its production lines reached 464,000, representing a 29-percent increase year-on-year.

"Currently we're preparing for production of a new three-door pro_cee’d model, thanks to which we're planning to make 290,000 vehicles in 2013," said Lee, adding that production of the model should be launched in this the first quarter of 2013.
In May Kia will add a 'GT' sports version of its five- and three-door Kia cee’d to its model portfolio. The company exports the vehicles that it makes in Slovakia throughout Europe.
